The brand new the new sony wants the Chronicle directorBefore found footage superhero thriller Chronicle even touched reduced cinemas, there has been rumblings that director Josh Trank might be inside the frame to tackle last century Fox's Fantastic Four reboot. In a twist worth a four-colour comic page, he's now settling to battle an legendary Marvel title, while not at Fox rather than the Foursome. He's been specific for Venom. In line with the LA Occasions, The brand new the new sony has swooped in and begun talks with Trank to battle the nasty, oozing, lizard-like alien symbiotic creature who last (dis)embellished screens in 2007's Spider-Guy 3. Showbiz may be capable of recast piracy debate

MegaUpload founder Kim Dotcom, charged mass copyright breach. The story of Kim Dotcom, the founding father of file-hosting site Megaupload arrested within the month of the month of january on charges of masterminding massive criminal copyright breach, is starting to appear like something from the Roger Moore-era Jason Bourne pic: He changed his surname from Schmitz, he's six-ft-five and weighs in at in at 322 pounds and, according his legal team, he was taken when helis swooped straight into his Nz estate and apprehended him. Inside an interview having a completely new Zealand paper now, Dotcom predicted he'd prevail and referred to as his arrest "political." Dotcom may be thinking political, but as his situation evolves, possibly Hollywood needs to be thinking PR. Still stinging within the sidelining in the Stop Online Piracy Act, which happened the identical week since the seizure of Megaupload, showbiz remains a amount of consternation over what direction to go next. Round the Oscar carpet, MPAA chairman-Boss Chris Dodd mentioned that you will find been bridge building between showbiz and Plastic Valley, and "You'll find some very adult, mature people concentrating on approaching having a couple of solutions which will make sense." But beyond the policymaking, furthermore, you will find the issue of winning minds and hearts, a vexing problem with an industry seen by lots of Middle America with disdain. PSAs explore a blizzard of multiple texting. Trailers have elicited groans from moviegoers. A substantial-scale awareness campaign on componen with people that moved public considered seatbelts and driving while impaired is a pricey, years-extended effort, possibly with not proven results. The PR fight is not any small factor: Once the SOPA debate became a member of everyone awareness, rivals had crafted the information while using emotional alarm, even if the legislation's supporters cried foul over whatever they say will be a campaign of false tales. "The unfortunate factor in this particular debate is we inside the film and television industry, we are not really a victim that garners plenty of sympathy for the average citizen," Michael Robinson, MPAA professional V . p ., content protection and chief of methods, mentioned inside a panel on piracy this year's week just before the Caucus for Producers, Authors and Company company directors. "The argument we constantly hear, especially from youthful people taking part within the setting up of content, is, 'Who can it be really doing harm to?' All the stars make large money. All the stars are very paid out." The went together with some safeguarding jobs, nevertheless the debate ended up being about large media trying to stifle freedom of expression. Robinson mentioned the sixth-grade boy of just one of his employees came home within the height in the debate and asked for, "Father, why do you want to work with your outfit that desires to break the net?In . Speaking for the panelists, it's apparent simply how much the industry's approach remains caught involving the carrot as well as the stick. Some independent filmmakers Are going up to now regarding file suit against clients who download their movies unlawfully, but Kent Raygor, partner at Sheppard Mullin, noted this type of approach "is really pricey that is terribly ineffective. It's type of like the old wager on whack-a-mole." Jim Gladstone, professional V . p . of legal and business matters for Lionsgate, suggested applying stars to accomplish trailers "to explain why this law is useful for people, both service companies as well as the industry." Vin di Bona, which has produced a venture to follow in addition to monetize clips of "America's Funniest Home Videos" due to the routine unauthorized upload online, thinks instruction campaign must come from junior high. "That could be Pollyana-ant, I'm not sure. But it is a potential start." Melinda Demsky, senior V . p . of content protection for Fox, mentioned that despite efforts to even get piracy into school courses, "You question the way a texting continues to be received." Instead of digital robbery, since the showbiz lobby likes to put it, piracy of movies, music and tv shows is seen "a great deal a lot more like this infraction," Demsky mentioned. "This is a dangerous approach to framework it that's coming initially from from the couple of from the modern-day players." As well as the way the story of Dotcom is carried out, there is a method for the debate to alter again, particularly if he's extradited for the U.S. and will receive a really public trial. No less than based on authorities physiques and many on the market, piracy is now offering a face that's not the college student hacker or perhaps the small enterprise tech wiz but somebody who stood a quantity of luxury cars, spent lavishly on holidays on superyachts and cost copyright holders no less than $500 million in lost revenue. He seems to have the publicity: Before he was caught, he boasted to become our planet's leading player in the vidgame "Cod: Modern Warfare 3." He's fighting that he's the unfair target from the overzealous copyright military as showbiz wages its war against piracy, it could have found a colorful villain it might take benefit of. Oscars 2012: Why 'Harry Potter' Deserved A Best Picture Nod

Nine films are nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards this year, begging the question: who deserved a tenth spot on that list? "Oscars 2012: 10 Spot" answers that question, as the MTV Movies team highlights some of 2011's greatest films and argues why they deserved a nod as the tenth Best Picture nominee. My colleagues have made wonderful cases for several other qualified Best Picture nominees this year; "50/50," "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" and "Bridesmaids" are definitely deserving of recognition, but none of them top the cinematic achievements of the "Harry Potter" franchise, specifically "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2." To be clear, I'm lamenting the lack of recognition for the nearly perfect eighth and final Potter film, but we Potter fans cannot deny the fact that the franchise as a whole deserved Best Picture consideration. With "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" having paved the way for fantasy films to resonate with Academy voters as well as the general public, and the fact that 10 films can be nominated, it seemed very likely that The Boy Who Lived had a chance at that nomination. So why does "Deathly Hallows - Part 2" deserve the 10 Spot? It is the best of the bunch, hitting all the notes that those rare four-quadrant films need to hit. There is action, romance, solid character development with emotional, sweeping arcs, a killer cast, game-changing visual effects... the list goes on. Speaking of the killer cast, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that we will never see another franchise do what "Potter" did with its actors. Not only did the casting directors select the most perfect talent for the lengthy list of characters, they were able to keep the core cast members signed on for eight films over the course of a decade of filming! That just does NOT happen in this day and age of studios and agents wanting to make a quick buck and flash-in-the-pan fame. We got to see Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Tom Felton et al actually grow up onscreen and grow as actors. Time will tell with regard to their futures in Hollywood, but their performances in "Deathly Hallows - Part 2" were their best work to date. And then there's Alan Rickman. Just thinking about J.K. Rowling's heartbreakingly brilliant arc for Severus Snape - that flashback to Lily's death! Woe is me re-living the heartbreak pains I suffered alongside Snape in that moving, defining moment! - almost has me tearing up at my keyboard. Rickman knew about Severus' story long before any of us did, which makes his amazingly nuanced and controlled performance over the years (and in this film especially) that much more amazing. Severus Snape wasn't voted the best Harry Potter character ever by our MTV readers for nothing, after all. Finally, let's take a moment to appreciate director David Yates, as well as all the other award-winning folks who took turns helming Potter films: Christopher Columbus, Alfonso Cuaron, and Mike Newell. Rarely do book-to-film adaptations translate so well and so successfully and each and every director who tackled a "Potter" film added something special to the franchise under their direction. Again, when will such amazing and dramatic achievements occur again in cinema? The "Harry Potter" franchise is a perfect storm of so many elements, the proverbial lightning in a bottle that can not be duplicated. A Best Picture nomination was more than a little bit deserved. The MTV Movies team has the 2012 Oscars covered! Stick with us for everything you need to know leading up to the awards show, and on Sunday, February 25, tune into MTV.com at 5:30 p.m. ET for our three-hour red-carpet live stream and updates on the night's big winners.
