FEINBERG FORECAST: 'Marilyn' Divides, 'Ides' Disappoints, 'Hugo' May Be Monday's Surprise

The Weinstein Company Among stuff that considered into now's predictions (which appear further lower round the page)... Simon Curtis's My Week with Marilyn had its first press screening within the NY Film Festival today, as well as the early surveys are decidedly mixed. Moviefone's Christopher Rosen produces that Michelle Williams "is perfection" as Marilyn Monroe and compares the film to a year ago's Oscar champion The King's Speech. IndieWire's Eric Kohn, however, calls it a "tolerably superficial crowdpleaser" and states Williams supplies a "one-note performance," essentially "offering her best Marilyn voice and grin." Someone within the Playlist (there is no byline), meanwhile, falls somewhere in-between, suggesting the film is "not terrible... engaging enough... and tolerable enough," and Williams gives "an admirable and surely not spectacular performance... in the role she's possibly not too suitable for,In . but it's Judi Dench who gives "a stand-out" turn. (They will also obtain the film's title wrong inside the opening paragraph, though, calling it My Existence with Marilyn, therefore i'm unsure simply how much stock I'd put because assessment.) George Clooney's The Ides of March opened up on Friday and -- despite starring "It" guy Ryan Gosling and Clooney for stumping it on Charlie Rose too as with the interview after a while, among other activities -- shipped only so-so amounts laminator tl901-office (roughly $10.4 million), finishing in second place way behind Real Steel and merely slightly before holdover Dolphin Tale. Under passionate reviews within the NY Occasions, La Occasions, and Wall Street Journal didn't help its launch. Multiple sources declare that tomorrow evening's "surprise screening" within the NY Film Festival will probably be Martin Scorsese's Hugo, which apprently remains not 100% finished but is much enough along that Scorsese and Vital are ready to unveil it within the director's hometown fest just before its November 23 release date. (The Telluride Film Festival known for surprise tests from the sort, but it is, to the most effective of my understanding, an unequalled occurence within the NYFF.) The NY premiere of Emilio Estevez's The Means By Which, which stars his father Martin Sheen, was an abnormally hot ticket last Wednesday due to the attendance of former leader Bill Clinton, a pal of Sheen's along with the founders in the organizations the premiere was raising funds. Clinton offered a hearty endorsement in the film ("I thank individuals who made a decision to get this to beautiful movie"), which went into limited release on Friday making more per theater -- $4012 in 33 theaters -- than essentially four other films (Real Steel, Take Shelter, The Ides of March, as well as the Women round the sixth Floor).
